'50s Lamp of the Day #9

The lamp of the day is an Asian themed chalkware T.V. lamp. We picked up this lamp on an antique shopping excursion in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
T.V. lamps were designed to prevent damage to the eyes that was thought to be caused by the bright light of the television set. Placing a lamp on top of the set was believed to prevent this vision damage. This was later disproven and it may have been just another marketing ploy from the beginning.
T.V. lamps are so appealing because they come in so many over-the-top 1950s kitsch designs.
